Dr. Jan Wise

MBBS MSc FRCPsych IDFAPA

With over two decades as an NHS consultant psychiatrist in central London, I specialise in adult and liaison psychiatry, with particular expertise in medico-legal reporting and psychiatric ethics.

Until recently, I was a Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry, leading care for more than 150 patients with severe and enduring mental illness and overseeing around 400 assessments each year. I now focus on risk and serious incident reviews across an NHS Trust.

My higher training in liaison psychiatry and extensive neuropsychological experience provide a strong foundation for assessing unusual presentations, somatoform disorders, and functional disorders.

I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, an International Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and an Honorary Member of the World Psychiatric Association. I serve on the medical ethics committees of the British Medical Association and the European Psychiatric Association, and previously for the World Psychiatric Association.

Elected to the European Psychiatric Association board in 2019, I have contributed to international policy on end-of-life issues and chaired the BMA Medico-Legal Committee (2004–2018), receiving the BMA Association Medal for national service.
